Following on from the project to re-create a lost Victorian window, our client has commissioned another panel for her inner front door. At present this has a plain glass panel. The aim is to enhance this with a design themed from the existing stained glass in the house, but in this case with no knowledge that a pre-existing panel is to be replaced or replicated.
Inspiration
The first source of inspiration is the panels in the window which is beside the outer front door.
The first thought is to base the new panel on just the lower section of these two and this would be relatively easy as it is almost the same ratio as the door panel. The picture in the middle shows the source panel up-scaled to the outline of the door panel (red box) and as you can see this is only slightly wider than the upscaled source picture. However, this would result in the main rows of the panel being 21 cms high, significantly more than the other panels that are present in the house which have c 11 cm high rows.
The second thought was to take the themes, double border, 11 cm rows, style and colours and create something original....
Before pursuing this idea, I looked at just taking the two panels of the existing windows and merging them into 1, at existing scale, and just extending the rows to fill out the space, as per the existing house style. However as the third picture shows, the two combined panels at current scale would be too high.
Design-wise, I think something like third picture would be ultimately more pleasing. What does the client think?
