Arts & Crafts Inspired Firescreen

Picture
My latest piece - completed in January 2019 - was a long time in gestation and completion.  The idea of putting a leaded panel into a firescreen was one we conceived a long time ago and the frame into which this panel was finally mounted was acquired in September of 2016!  The design of this panel however was much more recent.  For quite unrelated reasons, some reading about the Arts and Crafts movement in the summer of 2018 lead to the design, which was principally prompted by the space created by completing the Fernbank project and the approach of Open Studios in September.  I knew this latter event  would go better if I had a project on the go to talk about to visitors.  It was progressing well through the Open Studios week, but then got overtaken by other things and left for 2 1/2 months.  Construction was completed in a couple of days of effort in November before another pause for Christmas.  The last week has seen cementation, polish and mounting into the screen surround, with completion today Sunday 13th January.
