The Phoenix
The Phoenix was completed in April 2016. This had been intended to be mounted in a Victorian style fire screen on completion. The idea for doing this arose when we used to take stalls at markets. The markets were mostly intended to allow us to sell our fused glass, but, at the same time, seek commissions for leaded panels. We found it difficult to display leaded panels with light behind them, so as to promote the idea to our public. The fire-screen format offered the solution - it was free-standing and could therefore be placed on a market stall table top. We acquired a number of old fire-screens from various sources. Chose one, removed the original panel and re-painted the frame. Sadly, through measurement error, the finished Phoenix did not fit the intended fire-screen and now it is framed for hanging in front of an existing window. The frame was later used for the Burning Bush.
One of the most detailed pieces I have done, the wings, tail, neck and parts of the leg were constructed using "skinny" lead to separate the feathers so as to not be overwhelmed with lead and seem heavy. This required a different approach to cutting the glass to get the required accuracy.

Later the Phoenix was to be the "model" to demonstrate the Lightbox worked.
