We have been commissioned to design and construct a stained glass panel to be installed within an existing Velux window. Our client was looking for a way of enlivening the view through a bedroom Velux window in her house re-development. The design chosen in the end was quite simple, as it needed to be sympathetic to the room, which has a dramatic wallpapered wall beneath, which employs a design based upon agate.

In essence the design employs a large pane of stained glass which it was felt complemented the agate of the wallpaper and surrounding it with a border of complementary glass. The glass for the strips of the border is Oceanside Sky Blue & White, Wispy Translucent (OC833-91S-F) and for the corners Kokomo Blue and Green streaky (KO142).

The simplicity of the design, however, is not the only point of interest. Being a Velux window it is tilted and so, to stop the lead, being soft, slumping down from its installed position, the lead will be reinforced, internally, with steel strips, and a covering sheet of plain glass installed beneath to provide further support. Construction is about to commence....
